EXCLUSIVELY in UPES: 10 Points that only a UPES Student will Understand ...

Being in UPES (University of Petroleum & Enregy Studies), has always been fun. There are few facts about this university, which I am sure only a UPES student will understand. I have listed down 11 points, that are very common in UPES but the uniqueness is that  they are common JUST IN UPES ... [The points mentioned below are based upon some basic observations, they are not meant to hurt or disrespect anybody]

1. Our ID CARD is dearer to us more than our lives: The cost of that piece of plastic is Rs. 600, and ironically you don't exist in UPES without it. So, "Chaahen Jaan Chali Jaaye, Par ID CARD Naa Jaaye ..."

2. Difference Between "Distance & Displacement": The way to library. It's the best explanation of the difference between distance and displacement. The ZIG - ZAG path. Well the method is so good, that even the management and law people now understand this concept. [ Although the path is now reconstructed, but I have not omitted this point for the sake of seniors ]

3. Don't get Backlogs: Well, don't get backlogs or supplementary. Relax the reason is not what you are wondering, go hell with placements and internships, we have to pay Rs. 3000 per subject just to appear in supplementary exam, and even more pathetic is the 20 working days of Summer School, that we have to attend during summer vacations.

4. "Bidholi & Kandoli" Campus:
BREAKING NEWS: SRM university has opened up a new campus in Jaipur apart from the existing ones in Noida, Bengaluru etc.
MEANWHILE: UPES opened up its new campus in "Kandoli". :P

5. Importance of an Auditorium: This is one thing, we all wish to have as soon as possible. Being a campus of 21 acres with another campus of 5 - 6 acres nearby, around 10,000 students and approximately 1000 staff members, we actually don't have an auditorium that can accommodate 3000 - 4000 people, for a decent address or gathering.

6. Number of Branches: Usually a college has 4 to 7 types of B.Tech, 7 to 8 types of M.Tech, 4 to 5 courses of MBA and so on. In UPES we have 34 different types of B.Tech [ Not to forget, we have 14 different streams just of Computer Science Engineering ], 17 types of M.Tech, 8 branches of BBA & 10 different kinds of MBA. Fascinating isn't it. [ Sarcasm !! ;) ]

7. Number of Students in Each Branch: This point is a new add on to this article, after observing the scenario of this year. To update my seniors I would like to mention, that now we have arround 140 students in APE GAS, 130 students in Cloud computing, 140 students in ADE and so on. Earlier we used to have just B1 & B2 batch now we have B1, B2, B3 & even B4 batch. ;) =D

8. PMC: "Piya Milan Chowk", the area with green benches in front of the Nescafe. It's kind of an intersection of all the paths of college, and due to the kind of atmosphere, it offers, its known as the Piya Milan Chowk. [ Rest, I assume that my readers are Smart ;) ]

9. The Almighty Uniform: Well, you can not enter inside the college without that tie, regardless of how important class you are going to miss. You can enter inside the college without a single notebook in your bag, but you cannot enter without black shoes. I, myself, am a supporter of uniform, it promotes equality and discipline, but whats the point of wearing a Tie when I am sitting at Amphitheater or Nescafe, its my leisure time and I can relax then.

10. The 9 Km Stretch: And this one is my favorite, that 9 Km stretch from campus to Nanda Ki Chowki, is special in itself. For few, its beautiful, natural and offers a pleasing environment for fun and photography and they have some good memories associated with that path, but for a few it's a complete waste of time, boring and dangerous.
